- [Instructor] Over the next two videos, we're going to take a look at the two main diffuse lighting elements that typically are used in a V-Ray rendering for compositing workflow. These being lighting and global illumination. Now, the lighting render element has been designed to store the direct diffuse light information that has been set up in the scene. The render element can be used to brighten, dim or even tint the direct lighting in a comp without affecting any of the other lighting passes that we may be using, such as global illumination or reflections. Now, depending on your level of familiarity with CG lighting terms, you may be wondering just what direct light actually is? Well, in CG, this particular term refers to the illumination of objects or parts of objects in the scene that are both in direct line of sight to a light source and that also fall within its energy distribution area.
