Match Properties (MATCHPROP)

- [Instructor] In the previous video, we looked at the properties panel on the ribbon in general. What we're going to do now is we're going to start working through some of the individual commands available on the properties panel in the AutoCAD ribbon. So we're still in the same drawing the 00 ground 1031 Southeast Madison .dwg file. And you can see we're still zoomed in to that top left corner where I changed this particular grid line here like so. So I'll just hit escape now to de-select it. Now, what we're going to look at is the match properties command here. So when I click on it and come into the drawing area now it's asking me to select my source object. So I'm selecting an object whose properties I want to use to change another object in the drawing. Now I'm going to select the grid line that I changed in the previous video, so this red one here. So when I select that like so it's now prompting me to select a destination objects that I want to change to the same properties as the source object. Now you'll also notice down on the command line there you've got settings. I can also right click and select settings on the shortcut menu. So these are all of my property settings. So you'll notice now that all the basic properties are ticked and the special properties are ticked. This is the default setting. So all of your properties will go from the source object to the destination object. If you want to switch any of these off or on again this is how you do it. You go into the settings. So you select your source objects, you then right click and go into settings to make sure that you can change those settings when you need to. Now be aware that those settings will remain changed or unchanged as the case may be until you go in and change them the next time around. So just make sure that you've got the settings that you need and then click on okay. So I'm going to select my destination objects. I'm going to select some more grid lines. I'm going to go for this one here and these two verticals here, and then over here I'll do this vertical one here as well. And then when I'm done, all I've got to do is press enter to finish, job done. Now you'll notice that all of the grid lines have gone red and they have adopted the properties of the originally changed grid line here. And that's how you utilize your match properties in AutoCAD, very quick and easy. And the benefit you've got is you can specify which properties you want to take from one object, the source, to your destination object in your AutoCAD drawings.
