- [Female Narrator] People want to use metal parts for a variety of reasons. Typically for strength, stiffness or heat resistance. Sometimes though, metal is useful just because it's heavy or because it can be magnetized. In these cases, you may be able to create a metal part surprisingly cheaply. - [Male Narrator] It's possible to use a consumer-level three printer to create a metal part. High percentage filaments typically about 90% metal by weight are a mix of metal powder and one or more plastic binders. Right after the part's printed, it will be in a green state. The strength and heat resistance of the green part will be close to the properties of the plastic binder in the middle. After printing, the plastic is removed with a de-binding process leaving it in a more delicate brown state before the remaining metal is sintered together.
