The Paris Agreement

- [Instructor] Human-induced global warming has already reached about one degree Celsius above pre-industrial levels, causing severe impact on water supply, biodiversity, extreme weather events, food supply, and wildfires. Recognizing this threat, 195 countries around the world adopted the Paris Agreement in December 2015 at the Paris Climate Conference COP21. The Paris Agreement is the first-ever universal legally binding global climate change agreement, and it requires the signing parties to hold global warming under two degrees Celsius and to make every effort to stay at 1.5 degrees Celsius. Countries that signed the Paris Agreement are taking action on their commitment by setting national targets for 2025 or 2030 to control greenhouse gas emissions and to confront the impact of climate change.
