- [Instructor] So far, I've presented a broad overview of the issues plaguing productivity in the construction industry. Now, I want to start to break those issues down and look at them one by one. So let's start at the beginning and talk about the design phase. Now, if you're a construction manager and you're thinking, "Wait, this is a discussion for the architect," I'm going to say, "You're incorrect." Design is a part of the construction process, and in fact plays a huge role in a project's success. Design affects cost and project affordability. Design affects constructability on the site, and those design documents that we use to build the project can be a factor in determining how much downtime and rework that we're going to have on the job.
