- [Instructor] Prepreg is a fabric or tape that is impregnated with an adhesive during its own manufacturing process. The resin system is premixed and applied to the fabric. The final material is typically placed on a roll with a backing material, like a thin film that allows for the easy release from the resin. This is so that the resin material on the prepreg does not stick to the rolled up fabric. Careful installation is necessary if parts are made from several layers of prepreg. If not layered and installed correctly, large quantities of air can be trapped in between each prepreg layer. You absolutely must remove this air by covering the prepreg with perforated release film and a breather ply. Once everything is layered up, then you must apply a vacuum bag. Apply the vacuum for 10 to 15 minutes at room temperature. Typically, you attach the first consolidated ply to the tool face in this manner. Then repeat this…
