- The basic needs to get started in storyboarding are small, just paper and pencils. And to help you with the paper part, the sample files available in this course contain a few various formats of storyboard forms that you can print out. The most common frame size is HD, also known as high definition, or also known as 16:9. So all these forms are in that format, and each of these are both in PDF and JPEG for easy use. Now you can print out the PDFs or import the JPEG in any graphic software that you like to use. Let's just take a quick look at them. So in this first sample here, so this is an animation in HD so they're set landscape, already has everything set up for numbering sequence, scene and panel. The second one here, this is for live action. Stacked portrait, already set up for scene. shot and panel. Third sample, some people like to draw larger so this could be either animation or live action, and it's just two panels across, just a larger frame on the paper. And some people like to do quick thumbnails, more on a page. In this example, I've got for both live action and animation, eight to a page. Now, of course you can create any type that you want using any graphic software. Just follow the proper screen ratio for your own project as described in one of our other videos. You can also download a demo version of my preferred storyboarding software, Storyboard Pro, from toonboom.com. So join along and sketch along as we cover the essentials of storyboarding.
