- [Instructor] In order to repair solid laminates, first you need to remove the damage completely, and something critical that you also need to know is the original layup configuration. You need to know this so you know how many plies are required in order to do the repair and this will give you the appropriate strength back to the original ply layup that you started out with. There are two main repair techniques. Stepped, with the step repair method, the first ply is the smallest ply and as you work up that step method, the biggest ply lays in over the top. Next is what's called scarf. Bigger repair plies first and then as you go up the repair ply, they get smaller and smaller and then once you get to the very last ply, it's one giant ply that covers all of the original plies that you just laid in.
