Solve construction challenges with math

- Remember back in high school, when you used to ask the teacher, "What will I actually use this for in real life? "Algebra, geometry, trigonometry, "come on, do I really need to know this stuff?" Well, I've been in the construction industry since high school, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that if you want to succeed in construction, math is an essential skill. It doesn't matter what you want to do in construction. Estimating, scheduling, design, project management, or executing the work in the field as a supervisor or a tradesperson. You will use math, and you'll use it often. In fact, being able to calculate things like how much material to order, how many people do you need to schedule, and how much weight will you be lifting? Those are some of the skills that really determine who advances in this industry and who doesn't. Don't be fooled into thinking that you can fake it in today's world of smartphones that can calculate anything. The fact is that if you don't know what to input, you are not going to get an answer to questions like, "How many yards of concrete "do we need to order?" And I can't tell you how many times in my career that no one on a crew could answer that question, because the slab was an irregular shape, or something with curves instead of a nice rectangle.
