- If you work in the construction industry in any capacity, designer, detailer, construction manager or tradesperson, the ability to read and interpret construction drawings is a skill you need in order to be successful. In fact, I'm constantly amazed at the demand for this skill throughout the industry. And it's often one of the things that determines how far a person advances. Almost every new construction project begins with the need to prepare the ground where the project's located. I mean, let's face it, knowing where a building or a parking lot or a road are supposed to be located on a piece of property is fairly important as we start construction. So are grading, drainage, underground utility locations, and landscaping. These are all examples of information you'll find on the civil construction drawings. And these civil drawings can look a little different than a set of architectural drawings. For one thing, they're usually drawn by a civil engineer who's concerned with different information and criteria than the architect might focus on. Like I said, making sure you locate the thing you're building in the right place on a piece of property is always a good way to start a project. So being able to find information on civil construction drawings or blueprints is pretty important. So let's dive in and take a look at some blueprints.
