Steps to take in severe conditions

- Additional precautions need to be taken if the weather conditions at your site place you in the high risk category. You should also take the steps outlined in this category if you're still in the moderate category, but people are working in heavy protective clothing and the weather is getting close to the high category. Besides the measures previously discussed for low and moderate categories, you need to add the following things: Increase rest periods and take proactive steps to reduce workload and pace strenuous tasks. This should be done by having a knowledgeable person at the worker training site to determine appropriate work rest schedules for these tasks being performed. This needs to be someone who's knowledgeable about the effects of heat on people, and who understands the tasks being performed so they can make decisions about break schedules and durations.
