- While there are many ways to draw storyboards, it is important that you use the proper format to match the output of final project. Now, the basic frame of a storyboard is a rectangle, as you see here on the screen, but the ratio of height to width is important to get right. The most common screen format that we work in is HD or high definition, which we call 16:9, but it's also known as 1.85 to one. Now that's the size of your normal widescreen TV. The pixel size for that that we draw at is 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels. Another common format that we work in is anamorphic, for widescreen movies. We also call that 2.35 to one. Now the pixel size for that is 2538 by 1080. Most software programs do have presets for the most common screen sizes. Let me show you how to get to those.
