- A 3D print is a physical creation based on a computer model. Physical representations do not always perfectly reflect the computer model. When that happens, you can get printed parts that do not have the dimensions you specified on the screen. A good way to test things out is to use one of the many existing calibration prints. One common one is the 3DBenchy boat available at the website shown. While the Benchy is a popular test print and documentation's available for what various measurements should be, some of these measurements are difficult to make. For that reason, the Benchy is usually used for qualitative assessments of print quality, rather than quantitative measurements. If you want to make sure that your prints are dimensionally accurate, a simpler test part is better.
