Types of civil construction drawings

- [Instructor] Civil construction drawings are the blueprint sheets that tell us how to do the horizontal work on a construction project. In other words, they tell us how to locate the building or structure on the property. They give us information on grading and drainage or earthwork, and they tell us what kind of underground utilities need to be constructed. In this course on civil construction drawings, I'll include the following. Site plans and plot plans which give us the information on where the things we need to build are located on a piece of property. Grading and drainage plans that give us information on both existing ground conditions and plan grades that need to be achieved to make sure the property drains properly. I'll also include the drawings that include information on underground construction work that's needed, like the underground utility construction. Sewer, water, storm drain, gas, and electric work are all examples of underground utility work. I also consider landscaping work to be horizontal construction, and it's sometimes included in the civil drawings. So I'll include these plans here in my discussion, even though the landscaping plans may often be a completely separate set of drawings drawn by a landscaping architect. Finally, I'll cover street improvement plans. Some people call these offsite plans or right-of-way plans, and this includes any of the work that might be needed off the private property to alter the streets, sidewalks, and any other facilities to tie in the work being done on site.
