Types of profiles
- [Instructor] In Civil 3D, there are two different types of profiles that you can create. So, if we go to the Home ribbon Create Design panel, we can see those two different types of profiles listed. You can create a surface profile. A surface profile is associated with, in some form, a Civil 3D surface. And so, as you create this surface profile, by default it will dynamically be linked not only to the alignment you are following, that linear path, but also the surface that you're sampling along that path. You can create a profile by laying out. A profile that is being laid out is one where you manually perform or tell it information such as the station and elevation values for the points of vertical intersection, providing information such as curves if there's any, and so forth. And so a lot of times we refer to the surface profile as existing and the layout profile as proposed. But, this nomenclature is much more accurate.
