- In today's day and age, there are many tools that allow for quick and easy capture of information that not long ago, was almost impossible to obtain at a reasonable cost. Tools like UAVs, unmanned aerial vehicles, allow teams not only to capture video and photographs at a very high quality, but they also allow teams to take the information, capture it and process it through applications that will translate that information into three-dimensional information such as point clouds or meshes. As we talked before, a point cloud is a series of points that represent physical space by associating the volume of a space and its contents with a point. Traditionally, this was done with laser scanning technology. Now, you can buy a UAV like a Phantom 4 by DJI or a Yuneec by 3DR and use it to capture the contours of a site, video, photos, or even structures that are on the site.
