VDC coordinator
- [Instructor] In the United States, it's much more common to hear the term "VDC" than it is over in Europe. Now, the exact reasons why, I'm uncertain of, but what I can tell you is that in the United States, you're more likely to be a BIM coordinator if you happen to work for an architecture or engineering office. But, the term VDC, for Virtual Design in Construction, is much more common on the general contractor side of the business, or on the subcontractor side of the business. So, on the construction side. Now, a VDC coordinator is almost identical to a BIM coordinator as far as their professional skills are concerned. Their education either comes from a professional degree, from a tech school, or from actual experience out in the field. One thing that is kind of unique, though, about VDC coordinators, is that oftentimes, those VDC people will be individuals that have worked out in the construction, out in the field, for years.
