Walking and working surfaces

- I included this walking and working surfaces section as a bit of a catch-all for information that I think is important but it didn't really fit under the other topics. Now I've talked about temporary stairs and ramps and walkways and the importance of keeping them wide enough and making sure that ramps and walkways aren't too steep. I also mentioned that for permanent ramps, walkways, and stairs, there are typically building codes that set minimum requirements, and it's also important to consider any codes for access for people with disabilities. But again, since these codes can really vary by location and use, it would be difficult to cover them here in this course. But I do want to talk about the topic of designing for safety. So codes and standards should really be considered minimum requirements. In many jurisdictions, these are even referred to as life safety codes, meaning that they're really just the minimum…
