What is CSI MasterFormat?

- [Instructor] MasterFormat is a standard for organizing construction specifications and written directions used in many types of building projects. It is created and distributed by the Construction Specifications Institute, also known as CSI. And Construction Specifications Canada, also known as CSC. MasterFormat is an overall list of divisions and section numbers with associated titles within each division to organize information about customers' construction requirements and associated processes. MasterFormat is used in construction to provide structure to building documents, especially specifications. It makes it easy to organize huge amounts of construction data and information throughout all phases of construction, including the planning, the building phases of construction, and even the usage phase of building ownership. The use of MasterFormat makes construction data more predictable and easier to use for those who are familiar with it and use it often. It is largely a numerical system and subsystem for classifying materials and processes. We will learn more about that in the next upcoming videos.
