What is a surface or sheet body?

- [Instructor] So before we get into creating surfaces, I want to talk about what a surface is in NX. Now, a surface is still a zero-thickness shape, that's all it is. It's just zero thickness and it's basically a shape that you're gonna use to make eventually a solid from. But in NX, a surface is also recognized as a body, or you'll see it referred to as a sheet body. And that's important, because in NX, you can create solids from a surface, and you can also combine solids into a surface, which is a fairly unique thing that you're able to do. And that's because the surface itself is recognized as a body similar to a solid. The big difference is, there's no volume. Again, a sheet body or a surface, I use the term interchangeably when you look at what NX calls it. If I look over here under the Selection filters, you'll see Sheet Body, and that is the terminology that NX uses to describe a surface. And again, it's a zero-thickness shape, and that doesn't change from CAD system to CAD system, but it's just good to know what the difference is in NX between a surface sheet body and what other CAD systems do.
