What is tumbling and how does it work?

(exciting guitar music) - Today we're here at SureFire, they're manufacturers of lights and equipment for our first responders, military and police. And right over here we got a part we just finished machining we're getting ready to divert it on a tumbler behind me. That part goes into this light here and you can see how the process happens. Let's head over to the tumbler and take a look. So this tumbler is filled out with media, that basically has small grit in it, like sandpaper and when that grit gets into this part, you can see it rolls around in here and it deburrs and kind of sandpaper, cleans the inside edges and everything that's sharp on the part, so it starts off like this very sharp and it ends up, more like a matte finish, like this when it gets done tumbling. Let's go ahead and start this tumbler and see how it works.
