Zero Energy Certification
- Zero Energy Building Certification was created by the International Living Future Institute for buildings that demonstrate zero energy performance. A zero energy building, also known as net-zero energy building, is one that generates on-site renewable energy that is equal to it's energy consumption on an annual basis. Zero Energy Certification provides a third party verification that 100% of the building's energy need is supplied by on-site renewable energy on a yearly basis through a third party audit of actual performance data. The Living Building Challenge is the parent program of the Zero Energy Building Certification. The difference between Zero Energy Certification and the Energy Petal of Living Building Challenge is that the Energy Petal addresses energy performance at an even deeper level requiring net positive performance and energy storage for resiliency.
