In-service defects
- [Instructor] So, you've built your composite part and you've released your composite part to the world. You need to expect it to be damaged or have in-service defects. Now, these in-service defects are things that will happen in the normal wear and tear of the life cycle of your product, or they could be extraordinary things, accidents as an example. You may have a bird strike on an airplane. In-service defects include things like environmental degradation, resin degradation, water ingress. Basically, you have a composite. It's getting sun, water, salt spray, whatever it may be, blasted at it all the time. So, the environment is slowly wearing and tearing away at your composite. Impact damage could be hail, normal operations, or accidental. You may have bird strike. Somebody may be working on a wing and drop a tool. Whatever that may be.
