- [Instructor] The light that comes directly from a light source is called direct illumination. In the real world, light bounces and is reflected by surfaces, and colored light transfers from one surface to another, producing indirect illumination. In Cinema 4D, lights do not bounce, and so we need to use a render effect called global elimination, or GI, to simulate indirect illumination. This will add more photorealistic lighting to the 3D scenes we create. The only downside is that it takes quite a bit longer to process, and so render times will be a lot longer. Since it's a render effect, we need to come over to our Render Settings, and in the effects, we'll choose Global Illumination. There are numerous combinations of settings, which will yield different results and have dramatic effects on render times, but for this type of scene, we can go with a preset and just use Exterior HDR Image, and that's all we need to…
