Create and apply simple materials

- Materials define the surface properties of an object. So we can choose the color, the reflectivity, roughness, things like that. Materials are created and stored in the material manager and the material manager is found in the bottom of the standard layout here. To create a material, your first instinct would be to come to the material managers create menu and then you click on new default material. A keyboard shortcut is Ctrl or Command n. Now the default material sounds a bit strange. That's because you can choose what kind of material type should be created by default in the preferences. So if we come up to the preferences here, choose edit, preferences, in the material section, you can see that the default material is the standard material. Clicking on here you can see there are other types of materials available. But the standard material is fine for our purposes as it's the easiest to understand. So let's close down…
