Creating geometry with splines
- [Instructor] Most people coming into 3D from the 2D world of motion graphics are not 3D modelers. If this you, you're probably used to creating 2D shapes in Illustrator or a similar application. Well, let's harness this knowledge, and I'll show you how you can begin to create models using splines, and generator objects. All generators follow a similar parent and child hierarchy, but the lathe is a good place to start because the hierarchy is simple. Now, I've gone ahead and made this spline already. And we know from previous movies in the chapter, how to draw splines, so let's just focus on the lathe object. What we need to do is come over to here and hold down ALT and create the lathe. The pen profile becomes a child to the lathe and it just wraps around, and you can see that we have this rather nice looking pen. If press command R, you can see it rendered in the V-port. Now, this pen needs a pen cap, so we're going to use another tool. Let's look at the loft. So, with the loft…
