Overview of VFX lighting

- [Instructor] When you're lighting for VFX, your aim is to match the 3D lights to the real world lighting in the footage. In an earlier chapter, we motion tracked this shot and placed some models of clocks on the table's surface. Now, we want to light the scene to better integrate the clocks with the background footage. First, we need to evaluate this footage and determine the light sources present, and then we'll attempt to recreate them in 3D. So looking at this image, we can see that we have an idea of the lighting direction and there is just some other areas that we can sort of pick up on high lights and maybe shadows, and this one over here certainly some specular high lighting there. So it gives us a good starting point of where to place our lights. Generally, it's a good idea to take reference photos if you're assisting or supervising a shot on set.
