What does the S stand for?

- [Instructor] If you've used Cinema 4D in the past, one of the main differences you'll have noted is with the name of this release. No, the S isn't a typo. It's actually intentional. For those who are new here, Cinema 4D has been around in some form or other since the early '90s and has typically followed a naming structure where R stands for release. When release 21 was made available in September 2019, Maxon introduced new licensing solutions, including a subscription model. And so now with S22, we have the first subscriber-only update to Cinema 4D. If you own a perpetual license, an update that has all the features to the subscriber-only version will be coming later in the year. But for now, subscribers can benefit from early access to a series of quality of life improvements to the software. So now you know what the S stands for. It's short for subscription. And if you want to see what is new in this version, Maxon uses a color coding system to highlight new features. You can see these highlights on various icons and menu items. The new features highlighting can be turned off in the preferences, and because it can be a little distracting, I'm going to do just that. So we'll come to Edit, Preferences, and we want to look in the Interface section. You can see, we have this Highlight Features and it says S22. If we click onto this and just choose Off, those highlights will now go away. So I'm going to turn it off and leave it off for the remainder of this course. But just know that you can come back into Preferences and toggle this feature highlighting whenever you like.
