What are materials and textures?
- [Instructor] Let's turn our attention to materials. Alongside lighting, materials can be one of the most challenging aspects of working in 3D because this is where you can transform a model from good to great. By the same token, a great-looking model can be marred by poor lighting and materials. Materials are stored here in the material manager and can be created by coming over to here and choosing create new material, or if your focus is in the area here, you can press command N and that will create a new material, which I don't do. And my favorite method is just a double click into this area and that also creates a new material. So the material attributes are over here in the attribute manger, but there's also another way of viewing them and it's my preferred method because especially when the screen real-estate is at a premium, we can just double-click onto the material and it'll open up a material editor window, which we can then have a look at what makes up a material.
