What is rendering?

- [Instructor] Lets turn our attention to how render engines work and how they turn the 3D objects in the viewport into a 2D image which can be saved in a variety of formats. A core concept to working in any 3D software is that to produce a rendered image, there must be a camera, a light, and an object in the scene. The object needs to have material as well. And if one of these components is missing, a rendered image cannot be produced. If we look at a new scene (and I'll just enable the grid), Cinema 4D by default provides a light and a default camera and every object that is created has a default material on it. So we can see it reacts to the default light, and we're now looking through that default camera at the object, so that when we render an image is produced. The 3D render engine simulates how light and cameras behave in the real world. And what goes on under the hood is really complex. But I think we can simplify it with an example. In this scene we can see that lights and…
