Working with generators

- [Instructor] As you start to build more complex scenes in Cinema 4D, you'll notice that often it will be necessary to combine objects. And that's where generators come in. A generator is a category of object that typically requires another object to complete its function. So for this example, I'm just going to create a cube. And a common generator is the subdivision surface or SDS object. The SDS produces a smooth surface by subdividing each polygon face of the underlying geometry into smaller polygon faces. The result is a smoother, denser mesh depending on the number of iterations. So to set this up, we're just going to make the cube a child of the subdivision surface, just by clicking it and dragging it underneath the subdivision surface, like so.
