- [Narrator] For most users, the web is a visual medium and images, videos, and other media formats thrive on the platform, but media also introduces significant issues for resiliency and these issues need to be carefully considered to avoid problems. The main problem with media, be it images, videos, audio, is file size. The higher the quality, the larger the file, the more challenging it is to access and use for the end user. Much of modern media on the web is served on the assumption everyone has a high-speed broadband network with a modern device and a modern browser. This assumption is not rooted in reality at all. A significant portion of the internet-using public only has access to the web over cellphone networks on older devices. And yes, that includes users in North America and Europe as well.
