Customizing JPEG compression
- JPEG compression is an agreed-upon standard. The name, JPEGing actually stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group, the governing body that specifies the process of creating and storing a JPEG file. Because it's an agreed upon standard, any JPEG image can be read by any JPEG compliant device or software. The JPEG specification does allow you to control some compression parameters and your camera provides features for customizing several parts of the raw to JPEG conversion process. This is a Canon SLR and the features we're about to look at are available on almost all Canon digital cameras and similar features will be found on just about any camera made by any other vendor. Earlier, you learned that after demosaicing and performing color metric adjustment your camera maps the resulting color data into a color space.
