- These days most cameras provide the ability to shoot in RAW. If you're using an SLR or mirrorless camera then you almost certainly have RAW capability. If you use a point-and-shoot camera then it's less likely to have RAW support. If you shoot with a cell phone, then you will almost certainly lack RAW support, although there are one or two models that do provide it. The easiest way to find out if your camera is RAW-capable is to go into its menu system and find the quality or image-quality menu. By default it will be set to JPEG although it might not be labeled JPEG. For example, this Canon camera offers a quality menu that shows this strange little icon. It looks like a slice of pie with an L next to it. I'm gonna open that menu up so we can see what the different options are. And you see here Quality, RAW, and JPEG. I can set separate settings for RAW and JPEG. Let's just look at the JPEG section for now. In the JPEG section, I have a choice to choose a JPEG file in one of three…
