Working with raw files in Lightroom, Camera Raw, and Photoshop
- Photoshop Camera Raw is a plug-in for Photoshop. Comes pre-installed, and it's not something that you're ever going to see in a menu anywhere. Instead anytime you open a raw file in Photoshop by using the open command or dropping a raw file on the Photoshop icon, or launching into Photoshop from Bridge, any of those normal, open operations when performed on a raw file, will automatically launch Photoshop Camera Raw inside of Photoshop. Upon opening a raw file in Photoshop, the Camera Raw window will pop up and Photoshop will immediately perform an initial conversion of your image and show it to you along with the Camera Raw editing controls. Camera Raw is a very complete image editing environment. For a lot of images, you can perform all the edits that you want inside this one dialog box, including saving out a file, without ever actually venturing into Photoshop itself. In fact as you work more with raw, you might find that Camera Raw is your primary interface to Photoshop…
