Boom stand
- A boom stand is a combo unit that combines a light stand and a boom arm. Now, you would use this usually when a regular arm isn't long enough, when you really want to get some distance to fly a light or to fly a modifier over your set or over your talent. Now, it consists of a really strong arm and a really strong stand with a good, solid base and that's important because you're really kind of counterbalancing potentially a lot of weight if you're hanging a light off there, and because you have so much weight on this side, you want to put a sandbag on the opposite side and the nice thing about this boom arm is you can actually hang your counterbalance on the opposite side of the arm, giving you a nice control over your light. Now the key here is to use a sandbag or a weight that's equal to the weight at the opposite end so that you're not overpowering it.
