- I've found that when I started shopping for lenses, that the smaller the aperture number, essentially, the bigger the hole, the more expensive the lens got. So, initially, as I started buying my lenses when I was first getting started in photography, I just couldn't afford those lenses. I started looking at things like, why is a 1.2 lens so expensive? And I just, I got turned off. I didn't understand. You buy a lot of lenses, like this is a good, medium-quality lens from Sony, and they're 16-35 zoom, and what's nice about it is it's f4 all the way through. The cheaper zooms are going to vary sometimes between f4 to 5.6 or 3.5 to 5.6. So as you zoom, the aperture actually changes, and this is one of those things that I think a lot of folks don't fully grasp the benefits. Now, I don't think that you need these really wide-open aperture lenses for all shooting scenarios. What are some of the things that draw you for low-light performance?
