- So the lists we just covered is what most photographers remember, but now let's start getting in to some of the costs that everybody forgets. Number one, your insurance. And a piece of advice on insurance, if you're becoming a professional photographer and you're shooting out there for clients and your car is broken in to and you loose your gear, your home insurance policy is not going to cover it. So one of the very first things you want to do, in terms of your insurance, is to meet with your insurance agent and make sure you've got business insurance, both for your gear and in terms of the liability you want to have. Then there's your education. Every time you've taken a workshop and spent money on a particular workshop, it's going into your education, it's part of the costs to get your business started.
