Focusing on your content

- [Instructor] Now, we've already discussed the importance of reducing visual distractions in your movie. Now let's talk about focusing your viewer's attention on the essential elements of what you're saying, doing, and teaching. And focus your screencast on one single concept, and keep your movie short and to the point. And you may be wondering, is there an ideal movie length for an instructional screencast? No, there is no one single number or formula for an ideal movie. But we can use the following rule of thumb. Target your movie to be between two and nine minutes long with the sweet spot being three to six minutes. Now, this generally gives you enough time to thoroughly cover your subject matter and not lose your audience to distractions. And one of the biggest challenges that you'll face is not going to be figuring out what to say but rather, figuring out what to leave out. When in doubt, leave it out.
