- [Instructor] We've already discussed the importance of reducing visual distractions in your movies. Now let's talk about focusing your viewer's attention on the essential elements of what you're saying, doing, or teaching. Focus your screencast on one single concept and keep your movie short and to the point. You may be wondering, is there an ideal movie length for an instructional screencast? There's probably no one single number or formula to define what that ideal number may be. But we can use the following rule of thumb. Target your movies to be between two and nine minutes long with the sweet spot of three to six minutes. This generally gives you enough time to thoroughly cover your subject matter but not lose your audience to distractions. One of the biggest challenges you'll face is not going to be figuring out what to say, but rather figuring out what to leave out.
