Using depth of field preview
- One feature of the Canon 5D Mark IV that is most certainly not new is the depth of field preview, and yet it is a feature that I find many photographers forget all about or maybe didn't even know existed in the first place, I think in part because the button that activates that depth of field preview is sort of hidden from view. It's underneath the lens, essentially, so it doesn't exactly stand out as an obvious feature on the camera. But I do find that that depth of field preview can be very helpful, especially in situations where I have relatively narrow depth of field, all things considered, I want to make sure that I'm positioning it as precisely as possible. Now, if you're using the viewfinder display and then you activate that depth of field preview, it can be a little bit of a challenge to evaluate the result, because you're darkening down the scene.
