Types of variables

- There are two types of variables available in Captivate, user-defined and system. User-defined variables are created by the Captivate author. You can create a variable to capture the name of a learner, and display it on the course slides or certificate. You can also create variables to determine if a button was clicked, a slide visited, or a question answered, which can further be used in the actions and advanced actions for custom branching or interactivity. System variables are pre-created variables available for you to use in Captivate. Some of these variables are read-only and can only be used to display content, but others will allow you to change or control their values. Let's take a look at the different categories of system variables available in Captivate. The first category is the Movie Control variables.
