- [Instructor] Let's discuss the importance of an end point patching strategy, as well as some best practices. Security is the main benefit of patching practices. Numerous studies have shown that more than 50% of data breaches can be traced back to a vulnerability that was already identified, but which had been left unpatched. Consider the fact that when a patch is released, the patch itself directly and specifically identifies the vulnerability it is meant to remediate. This means that attackers can learn new ways to exploit our systems from those patch releases, underscoring the fact that we should install new patches as soon as possible. Other benefits include making sure we fall under compliance with industry regulations and also the added features and performance improvements that are included with many patches.
