- [Instructor] An organization has many options for deploying services. Today's network take advantage of virtual technology. The concept of virtualization is not new, in fact, GE and IBM pioneered virtualization in the early 1960s, during that time, companies used virtualization on mainframes in order to keep the large expensive computers busy. Fast forward to the 1980s and 1990s when networks grew in size and capacity the data center would most likely have racks of blade servers to support the needs of the organization. However, over time, computer hardware costs have declined. Here we can see in this graphic, hard drive cost per gigabyte in the 1980s, it was nearly prohibitive and then in 2015, we see that it's nearly free. In addition to the decreased cost of hardware, the capacity has increased, as a result, many computers were utilizing only 12 to 18% of their capacity in order to optimize the capacity so the appliance was using more other capacity network administrators began…
