- [Instructor] So let's begin. Best place to start is at concept art. Some studios might call this key art or lighting frames. Either way, they're generally created by the art department. In this case, my inspiration is one of m longtime heroes, Ralph McQuarrie. Ralph has worked on Star Wars films, that was one of his most well-known films. And he's worked in the art department, as well as in the matte department. So, he's created frames that made it into the actual movie, as well as frames to reference the look of the movie. As you can see here, he's painting traditionally. And something that we tend to forget very often. In this medium, it was most important to be very deliberate about the brush strokes that you take. And in this day and age, with the advent of new technologies, and 3D, and just being able to be anywhere in that 3D environment at any time, helps us to forget to be deliberate about our images.
