- What I'm going to do now, is introduce you to all the materials that we use on this course. And, the first thing we're going to look at is canvases and grounds. I want to show you how effective it can be to use a color ground in your paintings, and how it can really help establish a mood to the season that you're working on. (acoustic music) For all of the final painting projects on the course, I'll be using a pre-primed, 10 ounce cotton duck canvas. The canvas is 20 by 32.4 centimeters, and it's based on the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio has been used for centuries to create harmony and balance. And, I really like using this ratioed canvas, especially for landscape paintings. Because the canvas has been pre-primed with Gesso by the manufacturer, it arrives white and is ready to paint on top of.
