After Effects tips and tricks

- [Instructor] Before we begin working with Boris Continuum, want to show you several tips and tricks in After Effects. The first is, what do you do if you open up a project and it looks like this, color bars instead of the footage? Well, that means the project cannot locate the footage. Could be because the project files were moved, or copied to a new location. If you see this, you can go to the missing footage, such as this image sequence, right mouse button click on it, after it's selected, go to Replace Footage, File, and then locate it. Now as demonstration, I moved this footage onto my desktop. So I can go to that folder, and with image sequence, select the first file, make sure the sequence checkbox is on, and then click Import. And now that path is updated, and we have the correct footage. The second tip is how to set your timeline three down in the frames. This is how I've set my project throughout the course, and this is a habit I developed from visual effects work. If you'd like to match this, you can go to File, Project Settings, Time Display Style tab, and click on Frames. Can always go back to Time Code, which is the default. They're here, I'll just cancel. The third tip is how to deal with frame rates when you're working with image sequences. Image sequences are folders full of numbered frames, so they have no inherent frame rates. When you import an image sequence, After Effects applies a default interpretation, and by default, that's 30 frames per second. However, the footage used for this course has different frame rates, for example, this shot was captured at 24 frames per second. So if you do need to change the interpretation, select the footage, right mouse button click, go to Interpret Footage, Main. Beside Assume this frame rate, you can enter your own frame rate interpretation, then click OK. For the project files I've included with this course, I've already set the correct frame rate interpretation. That might be useful to do if you're making a brand new composition using the example footage. So there are a few tips and tricks. Let's get started with Boris Continuum.
