Adding flourishes to type in Illustrator

- Hi, I'm Nigel French welcome to Type Tips. This week, some suggestions for how you can add decorative flourishes to your type. I have my cap R, which is in ratio modern, and I'd like to add a more decorative leg to it. So I'm going to be removing the existing one and then creating a new one with more of a flourish. From the type menu, I'll convert it to outlines. Then I'll get my knife tool, hold down the option or Alt key so that I can draw a straight line and just slice through at the top right there. Now, rather than delete this, I am going to convert this selection to a guide. To do that, I will press Command or Control + 5. If I don't see anything, I need to make sure that my guides are turned on, which is Command or Control + ;. And also that they are locked, which they are, but those commands are here.
