Create a simple text knockout

- [Nigel French] Welcome to Type Tips, I'm Nigel French. This week I'd like to show you how to create this simple but effective knockout technique. I'm going to show you how to do it in InDesign and in Photoshop. If you want to do it in Illustrator the steps are the same as those in InDesign. So firstly, in InDesign I'll move to my second page where we have the work in progress. I need to select the white rectangle and the text frame, these are two separate items, and group them together. Command or Control + G. I'll then come to the Effects panel and choose Knockout Group. Nothing happens yet. I will now select the text frame that is part of the group by double-clicking on it, and reduce its opacity to zero. Now, switching to Photoshop. Here we have two layers. Text layer and a rectangle. These need to be grouped together, Command or Control + G. And then if I open up the group, I need to go to the text layer, to its…
