- [Nigel] Hi, I'm Nigel French. Welcome to Type Tips. A quick tip about glyph shifting, the ability of some open type fonts to shift certain glyphs, in this case, the hyphens and the parentheses based upon the casing of the type. I'm using Minion Pro, which is one such typeface. And if we compare these two, we can see that the position of the hyphens in the example on the right is higher, I would say better, more sympathetic to the type than that of the position on the left. Similarly with the parentheses. Now the difference here is that this text was typed as upper and lower case, and then converted to all caps using the keyboard shortcut Command + Shift + K or by clicking on this icon right here. Now I realize this might not be easy to see on a small screen, so I've highlighted those glyphs in red.
